We may be saying goodbye to 2017, but not to the double negative digits — an extreme cold warning is still in effect for Hamilton.
Environment Canada says a multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected.
“2017 is about to end on a very cold note. A fresh surge of Arctic air is encompassing the entire province in its icy grip,” said Environment Canada.
Hamilton can expect a high of -15 C.
Hamilton has been under an ongoing cold alert since Christmas Monday.
The agency says although winds are relatively light, the extreme cold is expected to produce windchill values below minus 30 this morning and again tonight.
“New Year‘s Eve revellers are cautioned that windchill values will be near -30 C late this evening as we ring in 2018,” said Environment Canada.
The agency says extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
