Mother of three who died after plunging more than 50ft from a hotel balcony in Spain may have been sleepwalking because she was ‘too hot‘
A mother of three who died when she fell more than 50ft from a hotel balcony in may have been sleepwalking.
Emma Evans, 37, from South Wales tried to sleep on the balcony of her Majorca hotel because she was too hot in her room during the family holiday, an inquest heard.
She died from multiple injuries after plunging to the ground below.
The hearing at Swansea Civic Centre heard Ema had ‘a propensity to sleepwalk‘.
Garage owner Martin, 51, and businesswoman Emma had taken the eldest of their three children on the holiday in September 2015.
Tragedy struck when Emma, of Pontardawe, Swansea, fell over the balcony in the early hours.
Coroner Colin Phillips said: ‘Emma had been sleeping on the balcony because of the excessive heat and humidity in a room which was not air conditioned.
‘She had a propensity to sleepwalk.‘
The hearing was told Emma had consumed ‘a considerable amount of alcohol‘ on the night of her death.
Mr Phillips, acting coroner for Swansea, recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
Emma and Martin ran a taxi and garage business along with a property company in their hometown of Pontardawe.
At the time of her death, friends described her as a ‘devoted mother.‘
‘This tragedy has rocked the whole of the community,‘ said friend Mike James.
‘Martin is a well-known figure in the community through his garage and taxi businesses. Ema has grown up as part of that.
‘She is a local girl who has grown up in Pontardawe. It is very sad. The whole community has been rocked.
Mike, a local councillor said: ‘They are a well-known popular couple, with lots of friends and she will be sadly missed.
