Manchester United ace Ashley Young will be banned for three matches after FA charge for elbow on Southampton forward Dusan Tadic
Manchester United‘s Ashley Young will be suspended for three matches after elbowing Southampton‘s Dusan Tadic in Saturday‘s goalless draw at Old Trafford.
Young accepted the Football Association‘s charge of violent conduct but contested the length of the ban and was unsuccessful.
It means the United wing-back will miss their visit to Everton on New Year‘s Day, the home FA Cup third-round tie with Derby County on Friday night and their home Premier League fixture with Stoke City on January 15.
GAMES HE WILL MISS
Everton (a) – January 1
Derby (h) – January 5 (FA Cup)
Stoke (h) – January 15
Premier League unless otherwise stated
Midway through the second half of United‘s clash with Saints, Young had an altercation with Tadic.
As Southampton took a corner, Young was seen to make with the forward in what appeared to be a deliberate elbow to the midriff.
Neither the referee, Craig Pawson, or his assistants picked up on the incident at the time, which means the United full-back has been landed with a retrospective ban.
The England international has made the wing back position his own this season, keeping the likes of Luke Shaw out of the side before moving over to the right-hand side to cover for the injured Antonio Valencia.
He has impressed with both his goal contribution and his aptitude in defence and has become one of Jose Mourinho‘s most trusted players this term.
With United suffering something of an injury crisis up front, the last thing Mourinho needs is to lose a regular fixture in his back-line.
