Three drones, 45 CCTVs and spotters for Magh Mela security

ALLAHABAD: With an objective to offer elaborate security cover to lakhs of devotees, pilgrims, seers and kalpwasis arriving to take holy dip during the pious moth of Magh at Sangam – the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythological Saraswati -, the Magh Mela police administration have roped in three drones and spotters to ensure an incident-free mela.
Magh Mela, commencing from Tuesday, would be continued till February 13, 2018.

Nodal Officer, Magh Mela, Neeraj Pandey told TOI “department has chalked out an elaborate security blueprint to ensure fool proof security cover to pilgrims, kalpwasis and seers visiting Magh Mela-2018.

For that, the Mela police have planned to rope in at least three Drones and 45 CCTV sets to intensify a close vigil on visitors.

However, there would be no use of Drones on main bathing days including Paush Purnima (January 2), (Jan 14), (January 16), Basant panchmi (January 22), ( January 31) and (February 13).

Officials pointed out “if they use Drones on main bathing days, lakhs of devotees arriving to take holy dip and using road diversion plan, might get distract after seeing Drones and might invite mishap”. Officials also claimed that the department would be maximizing the use of CCTV sets to maintain a close watch on visitors in all five sectors of mela campus.

This time, the department has also roped in four special constituted teams of men and women policemen who would be roaming mela campus in plain cloths and compiling inputs. The attire of these police team members would be like as an ordinary devotee. Every police team has 10 members.

Pandey, meanwhile, said “cops would also be taking the assistance of well-trained ‘spotters‘ to keep an eye on suspicious elements. The spotters would arrive from other states shortly to make round the clock security arrangements.

Around 3000 policemen including 5 Deputy SPs, 30 Sub-inspector, 1750 constables, 300 women constables, 11 companies of , two companies of RAF, ATS commando team, four flood operation teams are being assigned duties for Magh Mela 2018.
