‘Hopefully the executives wake up and see you for more than just a fill in‘: Viewers lament Deborah Knight’s exit from Today after she lost hosting role to Georgie Gardner
Some viewers aren‘t happy about the direction the Today show is headed in 2018.
On Friday, Deborah Knight‘s post from her ‘last day‘ on the program was swarmed with comments demanding Channel Nine reconsider next year‘s lineup.
It‘s the second time fans have slammed Today‘s casting decisions this week, after several took to on Wednesday with calls to oust .
When Deborah, 45, shared a social snap alongside her farewell cake and flowers, her followers were overcome with a range of emotions.
The journalist captioned the image: ‘Big thanks to my family for having me for the past 3 months. What a team!‘
Despite Georgie Gardner being announced as Lisa Wilkinson‘s replacement back in November, many fans were shocked to discover Deborah wouldn‘t be back at all.
‘Wait… what! Where are you going? Loved watching you x,‘ one surprised fan wrote.
‘Glad I‘m not the only one who knew nothing about this,‘ another replied, where are you going??‘
Those who were aware of her departure weren‘t necessarily thrilled either, some even calling for Nine to reconsider.
‘Deb, you did a wonderful job… better than any of them and should be there permanently. We will miss you.‘
Another concurred: ‘Hopefully the executives wake up and see you for more than just a fill in.‘
The current team of co-hosts Karl Stefanovic and Geordie Gardner, newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys, sports reporter Tim Gilbert and entertainment Editor Richard Wilkins clearly isn‘t sitting well with a large group of viewers.
Pitching their own ‘dream team‘ one fan suggested ‘Deborah Knight, Tim Gilbert, Tom Steinfort and Richard Wilkins,‘ adding ‘#justsayin .‘
Deborah became the front-runner after Lisa announced her defection to The Project this year after being named the temporary co-host until further notice.
But she couldn‘t hide her disappointment in November, when Georgie Gardner was announced as the permanent replacement instead, live on-air.
Making the news that little bit more painful was the fact that of all days, that day happened to be her birthday.
